Good questions. If there isn't a method for this then I am sure there will be one appearing shortly. Imagefield and Imagecache are getting a lot of traction because of their elegance and fluidity, I think its only a matter of time before this well developed bundle has a full deck of features. When those solutions appear I am likely to do more screencasting.
